CM Ibobi bats for promotion of culture
Ibobi opens 5-day closing function of Diamond Jubilee celebrations of JNMDA

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Wednesday assured that the State Government will help promote culture and encourage artistes in their creative pursuit.
He also said that the Government is making effort to provide financial aids to Gurus who are over 60 years old like the old-age pension scheme.
The Chief Minister was speaking on the opening day of the 5-day long Closing Ceremony of the Yearlong Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Akademy, Imphal held at the Auditorium of the Academy on Wednesday.
While lauding the role played by JNMDA in promoting Manipuri performing arts and culture, the Chief Minister said that though JNMDA comes under Sangeet Natak Akademy, New Delhi, the State Government is ready extend possible help to the Akademy.
He also informed that the State Assembly has already passed a bill to establish a Culture University with the objective of preserving and promoting Manipur's rich culture.

Acclaimed director and the doyen of Manipur theatre Ratan Thiyam who also attended the function as a Guest of Honour urged the gathering to reassess the current state of art and culture particularly dance forms in view of the changing time.
He expressed dismay that though Manipur is a haven for performing arts and culture, the conditions of the artistes are pathetic.
Thiyam emphasised that there was a need for the State to formulate a cultural policy.
The Vice President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi Lalit Mansingh also attended the function as a Guest of Honour.
In his address, Lalit Mansingh observed that Manipur is known for its dances and JNMDA is doing a wonderful job for the promotion of culture.
As a part of the function, Chief Minister O Ibobi also released three books - "Guru Maisnam Amubi Singh" written by renowned Manipuri dancer and student of the Guru Devjani Chaliha; "A glossary of Manipuri Dance & Music" (Manipuri Jagoi Esheigi Longei) by B Jayantakumar Sharma and "Who's Who of JNMDA Alumni" by BC Khuman.
A souvenir was also released on the occasion.
