Students vandalize IGNTU-RCM properties in protest

Agitating students of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University- Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) on Wednesday vandalized varsity properties over non-fulfillment of their demands by the Manipur Government.
Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Union (IGNTUSU) president K Bowang Kho said that demands of the union have been neglected despite numerous memorandums submitted to IGNTU, Amakantak Vice Chancellor, Professor TV Kattimani and other responsible authorities.
And VC had on March 15 assured union that its demands would be met within 15, Kho said.
But no development was seen even after the deadline expired following which the students started fresh agitation inside the varsity campus to push for its long pending demands, he said.
The angry students dragged out desks and benches from class rooms and set them on fire just after noon.
Kho said they have compelled to take up agitation under the banner "Save IGNTU-RCM" and also to continue with it until all demands are made.
The Union also threatened to stop the construction work taken up in the Main Campus, Makhan if their demands are not implemented by April 6 .
The students further urged the concerned authority to issue certificates of M Phil 2013 batch.
IGNTUSU have demanded appointment of a regular director of IGNTU-RCM, regularization of the current guest faculties of the Department of Sociology, adequate infrastructures and amenities for students and all staff members, appointment of adequate teaching and non-teaching staff as per UGC norms for all existing departments, hostel for students and quarters for staff at the varsity main campus and proper transportation facility for students and staff.
