Imphal, September 10 2013:
The issue of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar international boundary and the move being made by the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to exchange Moreh with some areas of Ukhrul and Chandel district is discriminatory and unfortunate as the motive is betrayal of tribal lands and their rights, Member of Autonomous District Council Ukhrul Ngashanchui Horam has stated.
In a statement, Ngashanchui Horam furher said that at this juncture all the elected MP, MLA, MADC, Hill Area Committee (HAC) and all the tribal frontal organisations must not keep silent but should come together and raised their voice loud and clear to denounce the move.
"Our land and rights can't be given away at any cost and the same can't be bartered for the welfare of the other people at the cost of tribal people.
So, all the tribal frontal organisations should come together and fight tooth and nail against this suppressive move," Ngashanchui Horam exhorted.
He pointed out that HAC under Article 371 (c) is the body empowered to protect the land and rights of the tribal and so it is high time that HAC should intervene and take up the matter with the government of Manipur and Centre as the land belongs to the tribals of Manipur.
