Poet remembered

Recounting contribution of (late) Rajkumar Madhubir's contribution to the literary movement of Manipur and rendition of his poems marked the 72nd birth anniversary of the poet held today at Manipur Hindi Parishad Hall, Assembly Road.
The simple birth anniversary celebration was jointly organised by the family members of Rajkumar Madhubir and management of Mapao, a biannual journal.
Graced by Prof Nongmaithem Tombi Singh as the chief guest, the commemoration function also featured speeches by Konjengbam Hemchandra on the life and literary works of Madhubir and rendition of his poems by BS Rajkumar.
Madhubir's poems were also read for the gathering by Kangbam Gunarani, Heishnam Rupo Chanu, Moirangthem Angamba, Kshetrimayum Monika, Ningthoujam Bidyarani and Moirangthem Vimosh.
Born at Nambol Kabowakching, RK Madhubir changed residence to Sagolband Thangjam Leikai and passed away on September 5, 2004 .
After completing MA English, Madhubir briefly joined banking service before taking up the job of an English subject teacher in Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
