Teachers leave when Addl Director leaves

Classes of some subjects were halted due to the absence of teachers in Jiribam Govt Higher Secondary School of Imphal East District, as they left the school when the Additional Director (Valley) of Education (S) who came to inspect the school went back.
The teachers resumed their duties after a long gap when the Addl Director came for inspection last month.
More surprisingly, Drawing and Engineering teacher Ch Shomita Devi, who is one of the four teachers banned by student bodies from coming to the school, came here when the Addl Director came and she left for Imphal when the later did so.
Then other teachers of the school followed suit by taking leaves on medical, official and ritual ground, resulting in the halting of Drawing and Engineering, Commerce, Hindi, Chemistry and Physics classes.
Moreover, transfer order had been issued for the Geography teacher N Rajen Singh.
It may be recalled that Ranjan Yumnam, the Addl Director came on August 22 last to inspect the condition and problems of schools here and any irregularities in teachers' attendance.
He had called on the teachers to make effort in order to achieve quality education.
Jiribam Govt Hr Sec School Students' Union had also submitted him a statement of various demands regarding the school.
Four student bodies of the sub division, AMSU-District Committee, MSF-Special Branch, DESAM-Local Council and KSA-Jiribam Unit had called a press conference on August 8 and warned to launch intense agitation against teachers under utilisation from Jiribam and those absent teachers, setting August 30 as deadline.
Also, four teachers of Jiribam Govt Hr Sec School, Ch Shomita Devi, W Rebika Devi, Somerendro Mukherjee and S Saraju Devi who have remained absent for long time have been banned from entering the school unless talked with the four student bodies.
Moreover, a meeting on the present condition and development of Jiribam Govt Hr Sec School was conducted on May 5 between the student bodies of Jiribam and teachers of the school at the conference hall of the school.
In the meeting, the student bodies and the Principal of the school had resolved to take stern action against the absent teachers, however, it was not converted into action.
