RGI teams arrive for next round of re-verification

Six teams of the Registrar General of India arrived at Imphal today and the next round of re-verification of census headcount in three sub-divisions of Senapati district would start tomorrow.
The RGI teams led by Deputy Director General Chakravarty held a meeting with the Chief Minister O Ibobi and discussed about the re-verification work, informed a source.
Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu and Senapati DC PK Jha were also present at the meeting.
The meeting deliberated on conducting the re-verification process according to rules and bring out a positive result.
Re-verification of 20 to 22 villages has been already completed out of 48 villages selected randomly from Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul sub-divisions.
The 2011 census schedule for the three sub-divisions were not counter signed by the then DC Nidhi Kesherwarni citing abnormal growth rate.
The census schedules without the DC's counter sign are currently with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On the other hand, biometrics enrolment of citizens has covered just 5.77 per cent of the total population of Senapati district so far.
Likewise, biometrics enrolment is making little progress in other hill districts too.
District-wise biometrics enrolment rate is 55.11 per cent in Imphal West, 45.54 per cent in Imphal East, 22.02 per cent in Tamenglong, 35.40 per cent in Chandel, 35.48 in Churachandpur, 49.80 per cent in Bishnupur, 51.36 per cent in Thoubal and 15.77 in Ukhrul district.
As reported by DCs that In-media and MANITRON could not make much progress in the biometrics enrolment work due to shortage of staff, the matter has been conveyed to the Union Home Secretary.
The same matter was also discussed in a meeting of Deputy Commissioners which was presided by Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga.
