Imphal, September 10 2013:
PFA Thoubal took a 2.5 ft long young Indian rock python into its custody on Sunday after capturing it from a tree top at Poiroukhongjin, Wangkhem.
According to a PFA statement, the python was captured after pulling down the tree.
The python might have climbed the tree in search of bird's egg or to bask in the sun, the PFA said adding that pythons also climb trees to crushed its food after having a big one.
Finding a python at Thoubal river bank is a very rare event which otherwise is known to exist in the area only in myth.
People residing at the bank of Thoubal river need not be panic of the Python.
Python are non-venomous.
They do give painful bite when disturb but they are quite passive.
Seeing python doesn't cause any ailments like "laichuba" to human nor they are reincarnation of local deities.
Killing of python is punishable under WLPA too, the PFA said.
The python would be release soon with the advice of Forest Dept Manipur, it added.
