Tamenglong Mini-Secretariat: Inaugurated more than 2 years, but nowhere near completion

Tamenglong, January 21 2014 : The Mini Secretariat complex of Tamenglong at the district headquarters was inaugurated by Union Minister P.Chidambaram and Chief Minister of Manipur O Ibobi Singh in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam; former Works and Transport Minister K.Ranjit Singh and Ex- MLA and Vice Chairman Hill Area Committee Khangthuanang Panmei and other district level officers more than two years back, but today no one knows when the construction work would be fully completed.

The Mini Secretariat, Tamenglong, whose construction work has been taken up by Axial Builders Private Limited, Tamenglong, was inaugurated on 3 November 2011.On the same day, the newly constructed Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Duigailong, some 3 kms from Tamenglong district HQs was also inaugurated and it is fully functional today.

When Hueiyen Lanpao visited the Tamenglong Mini Secretariat complex, located about 3 kms away from the district headquarters, only a few labourers were found making furniture for security in the barrack complex.

The top most building was found incomplete and no labourer was working there.

The entire complex has been left left abandoned with tall bushes growing everywhere.

Instead of workers engaging in the construction to ensure completion of the Mini Secretariat, one could find cows and goats loitering around even inside the office complex.

All the rooms in the building were found locked except for the labourer camps.

Few newly fitted electric bulbs were also seen in some rooms of the building.

There is also no drinking water facility in the entire Mini Secretariat complex.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong C Athur W, IAS, maintained that works on the office rooms have been completed but the connection for water supply is yet to be done.

Interestingly, the head of the district administrator also have no idea when the Mini Secretariat complex would become functional and run his office from there.
