Green Hornet, Silchar edged past Chiru Sporting Club, Assam by a margin of 2 goals to 1 in a keenly fought match of the 10th Jiri Cup Invitation Football Tournament.
The spectators who turned out for the match were treated to an entertaining game with the two teams matching each other equally in every department of the game, though it was the flair of Green Hornet, Silchar, which ultimately proved to be the decider.
With both teams adopting an open and flowing game, the Silchar team managed to snatch a goal as early as the second minute of the match, even before Chiru Sporting Club had settled down.
The goal came after a series of well co-ordinated moves, starting from the mid field and the ball went to an unmarked Ram Mohan, who was lurking near the goal.
Showing great ball control, Ram Mohan unleashed a powerful shot rattling the net.
The early goal galvanised the Chiru Sporting Club players to get their act together and displaying great team work raided the territory of Green Hornet time and again.
The defence line of Green Hornet however stood firm, leaving no space to their rival players to initiate any real dangerous move.
The Assam team kept on piling up the pressure and just three minutes before the break, managed to find the equaliser through Parthanglien in the 42nd minute.
The goal was a culmination of some crisp passing in the midfield and Parthanlien was well in position to take a powerful shot that found the net.
Lemon break was taken with both teams tied with one goal apiece.
After the break, Chiru Sporting Club withdrew and instead relied on tight man to man marking and swift counter attacks.
This strategy worked to the advantage of Green Hornet as they started attacking down the flank, finding gaps in the defence of their rival team time and again.
It was in the 64th minute of the game that Green Hornet finally managed to break through the defence and score the winning goal through Paikhona Rongmei.
