Speaker decries abduction of labourers

Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Thokchom Lokeshwar has decried the abduction of manual labourers for ransom by some militant organizations in the State.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of one-day awareness programme on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and National Rural Drinking Water Programme organized by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) at Haraorou YMC Ground under Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency in Imphal East today.
Lokeshwar further said that the manual labourers are earning their breads by working for long hours under the sun and rain.
There have been many cases of abducting labourers for ransom by the militants.
Such act against the weaker sections cannot be justified by the ideologies of any organization.
It is just a manifestation of cowardice and nothing else, he asserted.
The Speaker also appealed to all people to live in peace and harmony and take active interests in the development works of the State.
Dwelling on the awareness programme, Lokeshwar said that the Government is committed to provide hygienic drinking water and other amenities to the public.
They should also render utmost cooperation to the Government while taking up various development projects in the State, he added.
The awareness programme was also attended by Director of CCDU L Swamikanta, Superintending Engineer Ph Yaima and Member Secretary of DWSC Ksh Lalitbabu.
