Training prog kick-started

A five day training programme on using Buprenorphine in OST (Opioid Substitution Treatment) was opened today at Hotel Nirmala.
The training programme is being organised by Regional Technical Training Centre, Psychiatry Department, RIMS under the National AIDS Control Programme.
The opening was attended by RIMS Psychiatry Department Head Prof Heramani, MSACS Deputy Director (TI) Abhiram, Ksh Dipak of RTTC and Dr S Gojendra of RIMS.
Abhiram said that the training programme on using Buprenorphine in OST is targeted at doctors, nurses and pharmacists who would be assigned duties at OST sites that would be opened at 19 Govt health centres this year.
IDU's registered at an OST site would be given requisite doses of crushed Buprenor-phine tablet and the same would be put under tongue.
Prof Heramani opioid or oral substitution therapy or treatment is one of the most bene- ficial programme for IDUs.
This programme can effectively address withdrawal symptoms often associated with IDUs.
Under this programme, all health problems are examined in time and one need not fear for possible shortage or unavailability of drugs.
