Only registered students will be promoted: Minister

Pointing out that Covid-19 pandemic forced cancellation of class X and XII examinations annually conducted by BSEM and COHSEM respectively for the academic session 2020-2021, education minister S Rajen has made it clear that only students who were enrolled in their respective schools and are registered to BSEM and COHSEM for appearing Class X and XII examinations will be promoted to the next class.
Speaking to media persons at his office on Thursday, minister Rajen informed that the state cancelled HSLC, Class XI and XII examinations due to Covid19 pandemic and announced promotion of students who were to appear in the said examinations.
After the announcement of promotion, many students who could not submit their forms due to the pandemic but were already registered to BSEM and COHSEM requested to allow submission of the forms.
Subsequently, after discussing the issue by the government, COHSEM secretary notified on July 13 to allow submission of duly filled forms by students within July 17 through online.
BSEM too served a similar notice for allowing submission of forms and pay the fees between July 13 and July 16, the minister informed.
Rajen continued that some students and guardians who misunderstood the notices exerted pressure on the government to allow students who failed the exam four five years back and have not enrolled in schools or registered to BSEM or COHSEM to include them in the promotion.
The promotion is not for students who appeared in previous exams and have remained silent; he made it clear to students and guardians, while adding that such pressure has caused troubles to officials of BSEM and COHSEM.
He said that such unnecessary demands and pressures of guardians and students should stop.
Minister Rajen informed that modalities of marking for students have also been framed by an expert committee of the education department.
The result of the exams will be declared on July 31.The BSEM and COHSEM officials are preparing to announce the result in time, minister added.
Chairmen and secretaries of BSEM and COHSEM were also present during the press conference.
