Tobacco items worth Rs 5L seized

Imphal, October 17 2013:
Tightening grip against sale and consumption of banned substances in the State, police yet again seized a large quantity of smokeless tobacco products worth about Rs 5 lakh and pulled up many illegal dealers under the relevant provisions of Food Safety Act, 2006 during separate drives conducted in Kwairamband bazaar over the past few days.
The seized items included Zarda, Khaini and Talap.

The seized items as well as the arrested dealers were paraded before media persons during a press conference at City Police Station on Thursday.
The seized items were later on handed over to Food Safety Officials.
It may be recalled that consumption, sale, manufacture, distribution, display or purchase of all chewable and smokeless tobacco products containing tobacco or nicotine food ingredients have been banned in the state by the Government from this year.
