Imphal, October 17 2013:
Vision Foundation, Manipur has decided to take legal recourse if the Govt fails to give positive response to the memorandum submitted to the Union Ministry of Power by the foundation urging to provide adequate power supply to the public of the State.
A statement issued by Vision Foundation Manipur pointed out that people of the State get power supply only for 6 hours in a day which means power supply for only 8 days in 30 days.
The foundation statement attributed the rising number of UGs, unemployment, crimes, offenders to inadequate power supply besides holding it responsible for retardation of development.
Pointing out that Manipur is getting the least power supply among the States of India, the statement deplored strongly that the State Government so far failed to set up the State Regulatory Commission Office where grievances relating to power supply are supposed to be lodged.
When other States including most of NE States have already set up their respective State Regulatory Commission, Manipur still shared a Joint Regulatory Commission with Mizoram with its head office at Aizawl.
The fact that the State Government did not even open a branch office in the State shows the Govt's intention to divert power supply related grievances, it said.
If the State Government is sincere to work for the welfare of the people, it could take control of Loktak NHPC project as is done in Jammu and Kashmir.
Many youths of the State are suppressed of their entrepreneurial skill and opportunity by the Government of Manipur and India by denying adequate power supply.
The VFM had submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister of Power August 13 and MoS (Power) on Oct 14 demanding uninterrupted domestic power supply in the State.
