Imphal, October 17 2013:
In a daring act, a 7-year old boy saved a toddler from drowning in a pond in an interior village in Manipur's Imphal West district.
Sorokhaibam Lanchanbi aged 2, daughter of one S Priyo of Maharabi Awang Leikai, was struggling for her life in the pond when she was saved by her relative Leishangthem Sumanta of Wangoo Naodangkhong in Bishnupur district risking his own life on October 14 last.
Leishangthem Chaoba, father of Sumanta told Newmai News Network (NNN) that his niece (Lanchanbi) was playing around the courtyard when the incident happened around 2 pm.
He said the child unknowingly walked away from the courtyard only to slip and fall into the pond located few metres away from the house.
Fortunately, the moment she fell into the pond, Sumanta was walking towards the pond to take bath when he suddenly showed Lanchenbi, Chaoba said, adding his son at once alerted the family members shouting "Lanchenbi has fallen into the pond" and then he jumped into the pond and saved her from drowning.
She was rushed to a local PHSC, but brought back home after a brief treatment, Chaoba said.
