Dr Kalam's visit to Bunglon commemorated

Commemorating the historic visit of Dr A..PJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India to Bunglon High School in the small village Bunglon in Churachandpur district on October 16, 2006, Churachandpur, an event christened as Dr Kalam's Day was observed today at the district's Bunglon High School on October 16 .
The celebration was graced by Genneikhup Vaiphei, Executive Member ADC Churachandpur as chief guest, Thangkhomang Haokip, MDC, 1-Khousabung as the guest of honour and Dr Gin Gangte, Indian Information Service (IIS) and former headmaster of the school as the chief host.
The function was also attended by Thangjing area chief association member andlocal chiefs.
Thangkhomang Haokip speaking on the occasion reminded the people that Dr Kalam apart from being the president in the past, is a person who works for the poor and the needy.
He would go to the remotest areas of his country while in power to look into their needs.
He alsolaid emphasis on making every child educated.
Haokip urged the people to follow the footsteps of Dr Kalam in promoting education among the children who are the future pillars of the nation.
He also promised to give Bunglon High School any kind of help he could.
The guest of honour, Dr Gin Gangte spoke of his meeting with Dr Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan in April 12, 2006 who had requested the then President of India to pay a visit to the remote Bunglon High School in Churachandpur district of Manipur when the President had asked for any of his wish.
He had cited that the school lacked in technology that the school in developed cities possess.
As promised to the request, Dr Kalam had reached the school located in a village with only 50 households and donated 10 computers and some science laboratory equipments.
He said since Dr Kalam has contributed his share in the country's road to development, time has come on our part to do the same if we need to make India a developed country by 2020.Concluding his speech by saying that education is the strongest force to make people parallel, he urge parents and students to work hard and believes that Bunglon would also be a part of developed 2020 .
