Imphal, October 17 2013:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), while reiterating the third Naga Peoples' Convention in 2010 at Senapati, has announced that it will sever all political ties with the State Government.
A conglomerate of all Tangkhul civil society organisations of the State, TNL said it will also oppose and ban others in their attempt to intrude into Tangkhuls' land.
The 3rd Naga Peoples' Convention was held on July 1, 2010 at Senapapti district headquarters.
Based in Ukhrul, the TNL also sought Alternative Arrangement (AA) of the Nagas of Manipur outside the State Government pending the 'Indo-Naga' political settlement, a move spear headed by the United Naga Council (UNC) .
It said that AA is necessitated as it is impossible to protect rights to life of the Nagas' land, time honoured institutions, customary practices and values under the administration of the State Government.
"The Nagas have recorded the harsh reality that the State Government has never recognized and respected the identity and prestige of the Nagas," said TNL's general secretary K Dickson in a statement.
"While upholding the 3rd NPC declaration, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) will sever all political ties with State Government, dominant organizations and individuals who collude with it," it said.
"We will oppose and ban those party(s), group(s) or individual(s) in their attempt to intrude into our land to deliberately dilute our political stand," the statement added.
TNL's move came ten days after the UNC demanded the 14th Finance Commission, which visited the State, to allocate a separate budget for the Nagas of Manipur.
UNC urged the Commission to take an initiative for allocating the separate budget to guarantee that the Naga people and homeland are not condemned to perpetual underdevelopment and backwardness.
The sixth round of tripartite talks involving the UNC, state and central government was held in New Delhi on September 30 and AA was its key agenda.
The UNC also has organized a series of awareness programmes on AA at Naga inhabited areas in Ukhrul, Chandel, Senapati and Tamenglong districts.
