Imphal, June 16 2013:
Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro has directed the concerned authority to take up strict actions against those ZEOs who failed to turn up during "State Level Sensitisation Programme for Mandatory Training of Untrained Elementary Teachers" which was held under the auspices of the Directorate of State of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Government of Manipur at its office complex, Lamphelpat today.
Soon after delivering his speech as Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Minister Okendro asked the officials gathered who are the ZEOs among them and requested them to stand up and identify themselves.
Only around six of them (ZEOs) stood up and identified themselves.
The Minister then enquired about the remaining ZEOs and ordered to take up disciplinary action against them and serve explanation calls to them.
Earlier, delivering his speech, Minister Okendro stated that 7150 teachers were recruited after 2010 with the primary objective of bringing about a total change in the education system of the State.
Even if an individual has been recruited as a teacher, one has to pass this training before he/she can be appointed as a full time teacher.
No one, whether he/she has connection with Ministers or MLAs, can save a teacher from being dismissed if he/she does not passed the training.
While acknowledging the fact that private schools do contribute a lot in imparting quality education to the students in the State, Minister Okendro, however, maintained that very few private schools adhere to the basic guidelines laid down for setting up schools with all the necessary infrastructures.
Those private schools not following these guidelines need to remain alert as the State Government has decided to initiate a new strategy very soon.
He further appealed to the teachers to take part in the training programme which should be completed (for all batches) by 2015.There can be no excuse in the eyes of the law.
We cannot remain behind in the race to make the State a self reliant in the field of education.
The State Government also has plans to bring about educational tourism in the State.
As such the role of SCERT in this regard is very important.
Presided over by MLA RK Anand, the inaugural function of the training programme was also attended by MLA D Korungthang, MLA Kikhonbou Newmai and MLA Md Fajur Rahim as Guests of Honour.
