As in other parts of the world, Manipur Domestic Workers Movement Organisation (MDWMO) observed International Domestic Workers Day under the theme, 'decent work for domestic workers' at St Paul Retreat House, Mantripukhri today.
69th Bn CRPF Commandant Rakesh Kumar Singh, Archbishop of Imphal, Rev Dominic Lumon and Chancellor of Archdiocese Imphal, Rev Fr TS Dominic were present at the function's chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Rakesh Kumar Singh while speaking at the function said that domestic workers must not be harrased by their employers.
He added that domestic workers must be regarded as part of the family by the employer as they are assisting the family members in household chores.
Saying that there is need for demand of schemes by domestic workers from the Government, Rakesh Kumar Singh also suggested the domestic workers to inform the organisation regarding their grievances.
A cultural dance item was presented by domestic workers in the function while a short play on 'decent work' was also staged by children.
