Imphal, June 16 2013:
The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has demanded immediate and unconditional release of its four volunteers including the president arrested by police.
Speaking to media persons here today, MSF general secretary RN Koireng said that the State Government's decision not to hold MBBS/BDS entrance exam on the pretext of a Supreme Court ruling is unacceptable.
It is a big disappointment for aspiring medical students as well as their parents.
In protest against this disappointing decision of the State Government, MSF volunteers locked the office of Health Directorate yesterday.
Subsequently, four MSF volunteers including the president were taken into police custody.
MSF president Mongjam Umakanta, vice-president Aheibam Boynao, assistant finance secretary K Javelin and MSF Imphal East district president Keisham Romeo were arrested by police from their Sega Road office at about 5 pm yesterday in connection with locking the Health Directorate office.
RN Koireng further demanded revocation of the notice issued by Additional Director, Health Dr S Mema Devi yesterday which notified NEET (UG) 2013 qualified candidates about their counselling.
In case the demands put forward by MSF are not fulfilled at the earliest, MSF would be constrained to launch more intensive forms of agitation, cautioned RN Koireng while appealing to all civil organisations and student bodies to extend cooperation towards this end.
