Maram chief expires, tributes paid

Imphal, June 16 2013:
Maram Centre village chief K Taruba Mathias who worked relent- lessly for hill-valley unity expired yesterday.
Customary last rites of the late chief were performed today in presence of a large number of village chiefs, social leaders and the general public.
Meitei National Front president Chingsubam Wangambi was also present at the funeral service of Taruba Mathias.
MNF honoured K Taruba Mathias with citation and simple gifts during the 280th Puya Meithaba anniversary function of 2011 for his untiring efforts to restore the age-old fraternity between the hill people and plain people.

In a condolence message read out by Maram Khullen Village Authority Secretary Joshua Luikang, MNF said that the demise of K Taruba Mathias is a big loss for both the hills and valley.
MNF president Wangambi paid her last respects to the late Maram chief by covering his body with Leirumphi, traditional shawl of the Meiteis.
