Imphal, December 09 2010:
MLA O Joy said that he will bring up the issue of insurgency in the upcoming winter session of Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss for a political solution.
He stated this during the academic discussion on Manipur-India Conflicts and its political solution held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal organized by the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU).
O Joy said that, the victim of the current armed conflict in the state is the civilian population.
It is high time to bring a solution to this conflict.
The root cause of the present armed conflict in the state is the forceful merge of Manipur to the Indian Union.
Revolutionaries acting outside their ethics and the inhuman acts of security personnel are giving a major blow to civilians in the state.
The government is trying to suppress the issue by militarization.
The Indian government is looking the people of the state as their enemy.
No solution is possible without changing the outlook of the India government to the people of the state.
The Indian government hid UNLF, Chairman, RK Meghen from the eyes of the world for more than 60 days.
Whether he is guilty or not, Meghen is a citizen of India and he should be produced before the court instead of denying his arrest and detaining him in a secret place.
This is a case of violating the right of social liberty of a citizen, he added.
Retired, District Session JudgeC Upendra was the moderator of the discussion.
Former member of Manipur Human Rights Commission, retired colonel, RK Rajendra, Advocate Khaidem Mani, Editor, Ereipak, Irengbam Arun and Professor N Joykumar, Department of History, Manipur University were also present in the discussion.
In a speech, Prof N Joykumar said that the India government is committing a crime by violating the Constitution of India and human rights by illegally detaining RK Meghen in a secret place.
The Indian government is creating animosity among the people of Manipur.
The main cause behind this is the undemiable talent of the people of Manipur.
Manipuris are advancing in the field of games and sports, culture and many other fields.
The GoI is using NSCN (IM) to create disunity among the people of the state.
If the situation is not tackled properly, identity of the Manipuris might be lost, he said.
RK Rajendra said that there seems to be no place for judiciary in the state.
Everybody is doing anything on their own sweet will.
The accused police personnel in the July 23 incident has been released on bail even as it was a non-bailable crime.
This clearly shows that the judiciary in the state do not do their duty sincerely.
The root cause of all these is the corruption by people at the time of election.
The discussion arrived at two resolutions.
First, a political solution must be brought to the present armed conflict in the state.
People of the state should also be actively involved in the political solution under the supervision of the United Nations.
Secondly, the discussion resolved to inform the resolution taken to the concerned authorities, local, national and international media houses, human right groups and civil organisations seeking their cooperation.
