Along with arresting an active overground worker (OGW) of the proscribed RPF/PLA from Wabagai in Thoubal district, police commandos have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
Parading the arrested OGW and displaying the seized arms and ammunition at the Commandos' complex here yesterday morning, Additional SP (OPs) of Imphal West District Dr Akoijam Jhaljit informed that the overground worker identified as Naorem Komol alias Kamal Meitei (34) was arrested during a joint operation launched by the Imphal West and Thoubal district police commandos at Wagabai Yangbi areas following some tip off.
Dr Jhalajit said that Komol was arrested from his own house and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition which include seven AK-series Rifles, one LPG, one Sten carbine, one M-16 UBGL and four 9 mm pistol, 14 magazines of AK Rifles with 253 rounds of ammunition, one magazine of Sten carbine, one magazine of M-16 carbine with 70 rounds of ammunition and four magazines of 9 mm pistol, which were found buried in the courtyard of the house.
On preliminary interrogation, it has been established that Komol was working under the Thoubal district commander of the outfit and involving in its activities under the cover of an outreach worker of Rapid Intervention and Care Centre based at Wabagai Lamkhai.
The arrested Komol and the arms and ammunition recovered from him would be handed over to the custody of Kakching Police station, the police officer assured.
