The International conference of the Asian political parties held under the theme of 'Asia's quest for a better tomorrow' at Phnom Penh, the capital of Kingdom of Cambodia from December 1 to 4 has adopted a declaration for making the 21st century as Asian century through promotion of regional co-operation.
Representatives of 89 political parties from 36 Asian countries including India participated in the four day-long International conference.
The Indian delegation which attended the conference include one delegate of Indian National Congress, two delegates of Communist Party of India, two other delegates of BJP and one delegate of Forward Bloc.
Dr M Nara Singh was among the two delegates of CPI who attended the conference as part of the Indian delegation.
Talking to mediapersons in connection with the conference at Irabot Bhavan here this afternoon, Dr Nara explained that the main objective of the conference was formation of an Asian Union.
He recalled that all the participating political parties, regardless of whether they are in ruling or the opposition, were unanimously on various issues that were taken up for discussion during the conference.
The conference resolved that ongoing conflict among some Asian countries should be settled through a peaceful mission without allowing the issue to reach the United Nations, Dr Nara informed, adding that issues related to Indo-Pak relations, North Korea-South Korea relations, etc were also taken up for discussion.
At the end of the conference, it was resolved that an Asian Union for promotion of regional co-operation among the Asian countries so as to take on Europe and America in the developmental race, Dr Nara said.
He further observed that the present situation in Manipur is similar what it was like in Cambodia where over 2 lakh people have been killed until a change in regime was brought about with the help of Vietnam Communist Party.
The political experience of how the Cambodian crisis had been resolved could be very well applied here too, he added.
