While AMSU president Jamesbond Mangang in his key-note presentation highlighted history of Manipur's sovereign existence before its 'forcible annexation' to the Indian union and cited indifferent attitude of the Central Government for continuous hardships being endured by the people of Manipur, the resource persons renewed calls for pursuing political solution to the vexed issued within the ambit of democratic principle.
Noting that inspite of over 50 years of Indo-Manipur conflict there is no plausible sign of the problem ending in the near future allegedly owing to step-motherly treatment meted to the people of the State the speakers were unanimous in their viewpoints that participation of the masses is inevitable to achieve the goal of political solution to the protracted issue.
They also suggested intervention by the United Nations to bring about an honourable solution to the issue and accused the Centre of plotting divisions on ethnic line to weaken ongoing movement for emancipation of people of the region.
Blaming lack of initiative on the part of the political class for the problem dragging on, they opined that proper understanding of the region's cultural and historical components would prove important factors to resolve the issue at hand.
Earlier, Jamesbond Mangang strongly proposed holding of plebiscite under the UN as their is every possibility of the Indian military might flexing its muscle to subjugate genuine demands of the people.
