Imphal, December 09 2010:
The Manipur People's Party demanded the chief minister, his council of ministers and all the ruling MLAs to declare their personal assets and make the same known to the public.
Alleging that the high prevalence of corruption under the SPF government is a known fact, the MPP said that there is not a single department or schemes from which the chief ministers and his council of ministers, ruling MLAs and representatives of local bodies have not embezzled money.
The recent incident where some of the ministers and MLAs were showering currency notes of 500 and 1000 denominations on stage during the musical event organized in connection with the inauguration of the three market sheds, caused much resentment and anger amongst the audience and left nothing to imagine on the level of corruption practiced by the present government.
MPP said that the party will fight head on against the rampant corruption that the SPF government is indulging in, depriving the basic rights of thousands and thousands of citizens.
It further stated that just as the prime minster of India and the chief minister of Assam were asked to declare their personal assets along with those of their coteries of ministers, Chief Minster Ibobi and his ministers and ruling MLAs should disclose their personal assets.
The press release recalled the incident where written notifications were sent to all the union ministers by the cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar to disclose their personal assets to all citizens of India by putting up the same on the PMO website.
