Imphal, November 24 2011:
Demanding immediate abortion of the Government of India's plan to offer Supra State body for Nagas to NSCN-IM, MPP has dispatched a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh yesterday.
Meanwhile, it is reported that MPP Youth Front has chalked out a plan to embarrass the Prime Minister during his visit to Imphal in case the Government of India refuses to retract its offer for Supra State body and get the ongoing economic blockade lifted.
Speaking to media persons about the memorandum dispatched to the Prime Minister, MPP vice-president S Umananda who is currently president in-charge stated that Manipuri people whose hopes for development and progress through merger with India have been belied, are worried over the Government of India's offer for Supra State body.
In case the Government of India chooses to go ahead with the offer of Supra State body so as to bring a solution to the 13 years long Indo-Naga peace talk, Manipur would surely witness another massive movement, more extensive and forceful than the mass movement of June 2001 .
Saying that the MPP was doubtful about Home Minister P Chidambaram's clarification to Chief Minister O Ibobi who denied making any offer for Supra State body, Umananda asserted that Chief Minister O Ibobi's silence on the issue after his meeting with the Union Home Minister has fuelled people's apprehension all the more.
If the Supra State body becomes a reality, it would pose serious threats to the territorial integrity of Manipur in addition to putting more strain on relationship among different communities of Manipur.
Pointing out that MPP's constitution has declarations for safeguarding Manipur's territorial integrity and also to promote harmony among different communities of the State, Umananda said that MPP strongly opposes the proposed Supra State body.
MPP Youth Front president M Maniton Mangang maintained that the Government of India need not even consider the proposed Supra State body.
The Government of India should immediately stop threatening the territorial integrity of Manipur and give up its policy of driving wedges among different communities of the State.
In case the Government of India does not give up the idea of Supra State body and get the economic blockade lifted, MPP Youth Front has made all preparations to embarrass and humiliate the Prime Minister in a democratic manner during his proposed visit to Imphal, Maniton added.
