Security beefed up ahead of Sangai Fest

Stringent security measures have been taken up across the State capital for tomorrow's grand opening of the Manipur Sangai festival even as a militant group has announced a 12-hour bandh the same day.
Many foreign delegates are expected to turn up for the Sangai festival.
Security personnel have been keeping strict vigilance at the Sangai festival venue and its surrounding areas to ensure that no unwarranted incident occurs.
Security personnel were also seen deployed at various locations and important roads of Imphal as pre-emptive security measures.

Frisking and checking of vehicles along important roads and junctions has been intensified by the police.
Most of the garbage dumping sites on various corners of the streets have also been sanitised.
Police also sanitised major roads of the Capital using sniffer dogs and metal detectors besides scanning and monitoring loose soil in the middle of road meridians.
Security personnel have also been kept on high alert to ensure that no lapses occur.
Thorough checking and frisking were conducted on participants and stall owners at the entrance gate of the festival venue.
It may be mentioned that 18 teams of police commandos from Thoubal and Bishnupur districts have been deployed in Imphal East district since the past one month.
