CAC protests vote schedule on a Sunday

Imphal, February 07 2022: Denouncing the non commitment of the authority concerned to reschedule the first phase of polling which falls on Sunday (February 27), the Christian Action Committee (CAC) staged a silent protest at MBC Church Imphal and near the Imphal International Airport Gate, today.

The protest demonstrations were staged under the aegis of the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) .

Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters said that they will not participate in any election related activities if the date is not changed in the interest of the Christian community.

Saying that they welcome the decision of the Election Commission to hold election in two phases in Manipur, he added that fixing the first polling date on February 27, however, is akin to ignoring the sentiments of Christian electors.

Sunday is a day for the Christian community to profess their religion, he said and urged the authority concerned to reschedule the polling date.

A banner with an inscription "We Christians Support Election but No Polling on Sunday" was used during the demonstrations The Meetei Christian Churches Council, Manipur also urged all concerned to hold the election on any day other than Sunday.
