Public transport arranged for Sangai Fest

Transport Minister Khasim Vashum has announced that the State Government is arranging some vehicles to ferry passengers to the venues of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022.The Minister made the remark while inspecting the preparation works going on for the Sangai Festival at Manipur State Transport (MST) complex at Moirangkhom, today.
There, Khasim Vashim continued that people who want to attend the festival at Moirang Khunou and Mao may take the buses from MST complex which will start at 8 am.
Saying that some other vehicles viz; Tata Winger and Tata Magic too have been reserved to transport passengers to other venues of the Sangai Festival, the Minister appealed to the people to take benefits of the facility given by the Government and enjoy the festival.
He further stated that there will be traffic congestion if all people go to the festival venues in their private vehicles.
Meanwhile, a notification issued by Transport Director Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam said that two buses heading for Moirang Khunou and Mao will be flagged off from MST complex during the Sangai Festival (November 21 to 30) daily at 8 am and they will return from the venues at 4 pm.
The fare for travelling to Moirang Khunou has been fixed at Rs 80 while people heading to Mao will be charged Rs 240 per head, she added.
The Transport Director also said that a similar bus service has also been arranged specially for students with the bus starting from 11 am.
The bus will return at 7 pm.
Khasim Vashum further stated that parking lots have been prepared at certain venues of the festival viz Moirang Khunou, Hapta Kangjeibung and Ibudhou Marjing at Heingang for the convenience of the people.
These parking facilities will be supervised by the Deputy Commissioners concerned, he informed and added that the fee for parking vehicles would be Rs 20 for two-wheeler and Rs 50 for four-wheeler.
As precautionary measures, the Government has started checking vehicles which have no High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) in Imphal East and Imphal West so that law enforcing agencies can easily trace the vehicles involved in accidents or other forms of crime, if any, Khasim Vashum maintained.
The Minister further stated that the Government will continue to check vehicles which have no number plates and the defaulters will be penalised, he added.
Khasim Vashum said that all these measures were taken up to avoid unwanted incidents and ensure smooth conduct of the festival.
It is reported that the Govt is planning to put up the semilow floor buses for auction.
These semi-low floor buses were given to the State under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
As per well placed sources, these semi-low floor buses are not making any profit and not suitable for roads in Manipur.
In place of these semi-low floor buses, the Govt is considering purchasing 24 and 34 seater buses, it added.
