Imphal, July 25 2020:
The Yening Animal Foundation has appealed to the State Government to enact a law that bans consumption of dog meats in the State.
In a statem ent issued today, the animal rights group claimed that a memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh on July 5 last to regulate a policy to check the consumption of dog meat and brutality to birds and animals.
Though the CM had instructed the department (s) concerned to check illegal trading and killing of birds and animals, no tangible actions have been taken up so far, he added.
Claiming that they saw one dog 'Meiraba' mercilessly slaughtered and devoured by a group of men at Sangaiprou on Facebook yesterday, the foundation added that they rushed to the spot, but couldn't save the dog as the 'slaughterers' threatened them.
An FIR has been lodged at Lamphel Police Station in connection with the slaughtering of 'Meiraba,' YAF said and demanded the department concerned to book and punish all culprits as per the law of the land.
"If the Government fails to enact a law to ban the consumption of dog meats, we will approach the High Court of Manipur," the YAF asserted.
