Imphal, July 25 2020:
Opposition Congress party is all set to move a no confidence motion against the BJP-led coalition Government during the monsoon session of the State Assembly which is scheduled to be held on August 10 .
Responding to queries raised by media persons today, Congress MLA K Meghachandra said they would raise a no confidence motion citing the issues of high profile drug seizure case, COVID-19 and development related cases.
The Government's decision to hold the monsoon session only for one day is an unmistakable indication that the Government is afraid to discuss any of the burning issues such as the drug seizure case, COVID-19 pandemic etc, Meghachandra said.
Partners of the BJP-coalition Government are embarrassed and ashamed after exposure of the involvement or connection of some high ranking officials who have been holding key posts in the Government in multi crore drug smuggling cases.
The matter has already reached the High Court, said the Congress MLA.
Following the exposure of the involvement of some powerful individuals who have been holding key posts in the Government in a high profile drug smuggling case through a counter affidavit filed by a police officer, the same exposure has gone viral in social media across the State.
Congress party would move a no confidence motion against the Government based on the drug issue and some other key issues besieging the State, he said.
Noting that Leishemba Sanajaoba has been sworn in as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, Meghachandra claimed that the way Sanajaoba was elected was illegal.
As such, Congress party is preparing to file a contempt of Court case against the Assembly Speaker, he said.
Some Congress MLAs were disqualified in just one night by the Speaker without serving any notice to ensure victory of the BJP candidate (Leishemba Sanajaoba) in the Rajya Sabha election.
The Speaker ensured Sanajaoba's victory by violating all the relevant rules and laws of the country, he continued.
It was against the directive of Court that the Spea- ker's Tribunal pre-poned hearing of the disqualification case of some Congress MLAs to June 18 after the same hearing was earlier fixed on June 22 .
The MLAs were disqualified after serving notice only through social media, he said.
He said it was the Speaker who ensured victory of the BJP candidate after abusing the authority of his office.
Decrying withdrawal of Z category security given to ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi without any recommendation of the State, Meghachandra said that Congress MLA Yamthong Haokip was threatened by a team of NIA imposters at a time when Congress party staked claim to form Government.
He demanded the Government to present a report on whether the NIA officers who threatened Yamthong Haokip were real or imposters.
The Government's attitude to lodge FIR against each and every Congress MLA has rendered democracy meaningless in the State, he decried.
Meghachandra remarked that the incumbent BJP-led Government is highly authoritarian and is no longer a Government of the people.
In view of the prevailing political situation, the upcoming monsoon session of the State Assembly is very significant, he added.
