Compensation for burnt trucks

The State Cabinet has today approved payment of compensation to 29 trucks which have been burnt as well as for the goods destroyed in fire during the course of the indefinite economic blockade imposed by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee and the counter blockade of United Naga Council.
Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting in the evening today, government spokesperson Minister N Biren informed that the compensation would be paid at the rate of 70 percent for each of the ill-fated trucks and 75 percent for the goods destroyed.
Today's Cabinet meeting also approved the extension of grant-in-aid to five Aided Colleges namely SK Women College, Nambol; Waikhom Mani Girl's College, Thoubal; South East Manipur Manipur College, Komlathabi; Moreh College, Moreh and Don Bosco College, Maram, the spokesperson informed, adding that the government would be extending grant-in-aid for the post of principal, nine science and arts lecturers and four staffs including chowkidar and peon.
Among other agendas of the Cabinet meeting today, recommendations have also been given to upgradation of Bungchan High School at Mata Village, Churachandpur to the status of higher secondary school and appointment 25 lecturers and four Laboratory Assistants on contact basis.
After the Cabinet has already recommended job offer to 12 families out of the 18 persons, who lost their lives in the June 18, 2001 incident, in the Education Department, today's Cabinet approved appointment of one member from each of the remaining six families in the Transport Department.
