Imphal, November 04 2014:
Due to alleged paucity of funds, adequate number of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras will not be installed at the venue of much-hyped Sangai Festival which is scheduled to be held from November 21.According to reliable sources, with the dearth of funds released from the state Tourism Department, the number of CCTV cameras during this Sangai Festival will be less than the number erected last year.
It is worthy of mention here that Al-Quida, the international terrorist group has recently announced its threats of suicide attacks on Indian cities.
Reports said that a high level security meeting chaired by DGP Sahid Ahamed was held at the DGPs office chamber today.
The meeting reportedly took the decision to install only 32 CCTV cameras at the venue of Sangai festival this year, as against the 37 CCTV cameras erected at the festival site last year.
The state police department has also proposed sites for parking of vehicles to the Tourism Department which is the main organizer of the festival.
As of now, the exact parking sites are not confirmed by the department concerned.
It may be recalled that an incident of bomb blast had occurred and killed one person during the Sangai Festival in 2011.Consequently, the security at the venue of the festival was beefed up during the editions of the festival in the last two years.
The security agencies had also expressed inadequacy of the number of CCTV cameras installed at the festival site in view of the security needs in the city.
Meanwhile, the construction of stalls has started along with erection of a security post at Hatta Pologround at Palace compound Imphal.
More number of security posts and frequency of patrolling will be arranged in view of the festival.
