Imphal, September 26 2016:
Chief Minister Okram has questioned the Centre why commencement of session for the National Sports University is being delayed.
Speaking at the first State level Mahila Congress campaign committee meeting organised by Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee at Congress Bhavan as the chief guest, Ibobi said that the varsity could have even seen the second batch of students by now had the session started soon after the announcement of setting up of the University.
He said that the State Government had already sent a proposal for the commencement of session at Khuman Lampak and SAI complex where adequate sports infrastructure are available.
The Chief Minister said that he does not know what the Centre has been waiting for although not less than 400 acre of land had been provided for the varsity.
Stating that NDA Government has renamed UPA's Look East Policy as Act East Policy, Ibobi said that people know well what the present Central Government intends to do with the Act East Policy.
During UPA's time, session for the National Sports Academy commenced at Khuman Lampak soon after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced to setup the academy.
Urging the people to support Congress in the upcoming State Assembly election, Ibobi said that Congress never makes false promises.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while speaking at the occasion said that BJP had compared Congress with expired medicines.
However, it is BJP which collects expired medicines, and Congress never gather such medicines, he said.
BJP would falter in the upcoming election as the saffron party has taken expired medicines, Gaikhangam said.
He asked BJP to stop speaking like in delirium and befool the masses.
Regarding women's contribution, Gaikhangam said that women have been playing active roles in different issues.
He said that women's role is significant in maintaining a family and running an administration.
Like no family can be run without women, no party can achieve victory without the support and contribution of womenfolk, the Deputy Chief Minister observed.
North East Mahila Congress secretary in-charge Sahina said that only a woman can understand women and solve various women related problems.
She urged the women political workers of Congress to interact with the womenfolk at different areas to make them aware about the works of the party.
She also urged the State unit to bring more women in electioneering.
All India Mahila Congress Committee president Shobha Ojha said that people did not want to visit Manipur due to insurgency problem in the past.
However, the law and order has improved considerably and nobody is scared of visiting the State after the coming of Congress Government, she said.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Sobha Ojha alleged that the saffron party runs Government for some corporate houses and not for the masses.
She said that BJP's wrong propaganda can be defeated if women workers of Congress interact with womenfolk through door-to-door campaigns.
