A public hearing on determination of generic levellised tariff for solar rooftop projects was held today at Hotel Classic under the aegis of Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) .
Many officials of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram (JERC-M&M) were also present at the public hearing.
JERC-M&M Chairman RK Kishore said that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India has been working to general power from solar energy in view of the fast depleting fossil fuels and the environmental problems created by use of fossil fuels for generating power.
The Government of India has set a target of generating 15 to 20 per cent of the country's total power requirement from renewable or inexhaustible sources by 2022 .
For Manipur, the authorities have set a target of generating 105 MW from solar rooftop projects.
There would also be facility for selling off excess power to power grids, Kishore said.
There are varying tariffs in the country for power generated from solar energy.
The public hearing was held to determine the solar power tariff for Manipur so that the rate is beneficial to both consumers and generators, he added.
Later, many officials gave their suggestions and opinions on determining the solar tariff rate of Manipur.
