Deendayal Upadhaya's 100th birth anniv

The Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal observed the 100th birth anniversary of Deendaya Upadhaya yesterday at Khongabok, in Thoubal district.
Over 55 youths attended the anniversary and K Lokendro Singh, member DACYP, NYK Thoubal, and Kumari Roshni Devi, theatre personality graced the event as chief guest and president, respectively.
Deendayal is remembered as an "Indian philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, journalist and political scientist" .
Y Lakshman Singh, District Youth Coordinator briefly spoke on Deendayal's life, starting with September 25, 1916, being his date of birth at Nagla village in Mathura district of UP.
Brought up by his uncle after his parents passed away, he secured the first rank in the Board examination, received a monthly stipend of Rs 10/ and a book grant of Rs 250, said Lakshman and added that he passed MA with a gold medal from St John's College, Agra.
In 1937, Deendayal joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and met the founder KB Hedgewar through his friends and later became Pracharak of RSS in 1955.He joined in the publication of Rashtra Dharma (Monthly) and Panchajaya (Weekly) journal and later became the general secretary in 1953.He wrote a book on Sankaracharya, drama on Chandragupta Maurya, which won awards from GD Birla.
Deendayal believed in integral humanism, pragmatic politics and economics, decentralised policy and modem technology and believed in Swaraj, which is self governance, added Lakhsman.
He passed away on February 11, 1968 at Mughal Sarai Railway Station mysteriously, said a statement issued by the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal.
The statement explained that the main purpose of observing the day "is to enthuse the philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya for his love for the Nation among the youth leaders." Drawing upon the previous statement, K Lokendro Singh advised the youth to work with unity and make society better.
A social service camp is being held by the youth club members in the village till September 30 .
