7 days news reporting course kicks off at Ukhrul

There is a need to produce more journalists in Manipur of different dialects for enlightening the people for a better life, said Director Information and Public Relations Meghachandra Kongbam today at the inaugural function of the 7-day Basic Course in News Reporting.
The programme was organised by State Institute of Journalism of Speaking on the DIPR at TTA Hall, occasion as chief guest, Hamleikhong Ukhrul.
Meghachandra Kongbam said the service of journalists is a service which betters the life of human beings.
Journalists work in the mass communication media like press, radio, television, film and social media occupying a important position in society for their commendable service of informing, educating, entertaining and enlightening the general masses.
They are the teachers in a large class room of diversified masses-literate and illiterate, young ones arid aged persons, different ethnic groups having different religions and ways of life.
Hence, there is a need to produce more journalists in Manipur having diverse groups of people speaking different dialects for enlightening the people, the Director added.
The objective of the 7-day Basic Course is to raise the standard of journalism and to create awareness about journalism among the young media enthusiasts in the hill areas of Manipur.
A similar course will be conducted in Senapati district headquarters next month.
Quoting the standard of information facilities set by the UNESCO, the Director highlighted that any group of people should be considered to enjoy the vital minimum of information facilities if, for every 100 persons, it had the following: Ten copies of daily newspapers; five radio receivers; two cinema seats; and two television receivers.
"We can work out- how many newspapers, radio receivers, cinema seats and television receivers we need for Ukhrul district.
We need more than the existing available media in Ukhrul district" said the Director and wished success of the 7-day basic course on news-reporting.
Thotsang Shaiza, the president of Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association said that it was a good step of the Government to impart training to the youth of Ukhrul district in the field of journalism.
Sothing Shimmy, president of Manipur Hill Journalists' Union said that it was a commendable initiative of the DIPR extend the training course to media enthusiasts in the hill districts of the State.
Thotsang Shaiza and Sothing Shimray attended the inaugural function as special guests.
While giving die key note address, the course coordinator and also the Deputy Director of the DIPR, Ch Noyon Singh said the State Institute of Journalism has grown from a small beginning to its present position of importance in raising the standard of journalism in Manipur.

courses have been, coodacted by the Isstmite since its reception in 1992 .
Altogether, 24 participants including four (4) female candidates are participating in the course.
The actual capacity of the course was 20 seats only.
The basic training course in news reporting will conclude on October 3, 2016 .
