Imphal, September 26 2016:
ZoRe-unification Organisation (ZoRO) has urged the Ministry of Road Transpport and Highways, Government of India to reconstruct the bailey bridge over Tuivai river at Tipaimukh.
In a statement, ZORO said that the bridge constructed over Tuivai river more than twenty years ago was damaged by lanslide and mudslide.
Therefore, Hmar community living in the adjoining areas of Mizoram and Manipur have been facing great hardship.
The delay in re-contruction of the said bailey bridge has retarded the pace of development.
Portion of the National Highway-02 lies within the jurisdiction of Mizoram.
The said portion is being maintained properly and the people of Mizoram are enjoying the benefits.
Yet the State Government, apart from not maintaining the deplorable condition of the National Highway, is not able to reconstruct a bailey bridge, the statement said.
The National Highway-02 is the lifeline of the neglected masses living in the remote areas of Churachandpur district.
Despite repeated appeals to redress the grievances of the people of Tipaimukh subdivision, no positive steps have been initiated so far.
The particular National Highway will be the shortest route between Imphal and Aizawl.
Therefore, necessary steps should be taken up at the earliest, the statement said.
