Imphal, September 26 2016:
The Coordinating Body on Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (CBSTDCM) has appealed to all the Meetei people to extend full support to the ongoing campaign for inclusion of Meetei in ST category.
A press release issued by CBSTDCM publicity committee convenor Waikhom Ananda Meetei said that a huge public rally was held on September 18 at Hapta Kangjeibung as a part of the ongoing campaign.
However, neither bandh nor general strike has ever been called in the course of the ongoing campaign for enlistment of Meetei in ST category.
The committee is committed to keep away young school students from the mass movement as far as possible and also not to disturb their schooling.
If the State Government fails to take up necessary initiatives in line with the people's aspiration, the masses would be compelled to launch different modes of agitation which may entail untoward incidents.
If such a situation unfolds, the Government should be held responsible, said the statement.
As per the resolutions adopted at the September 18 mass rally cum meeting, CBSTDCM submitted a memorandum to the State Government with an appeal to send due recommendation with necessary documents to the Government of India by October for enlistment of Meetei in ST category.
While exuding confidence that the Government would do the needful on time, CBSTDCM informed that they would launch an intensified awareness campaign on the ST issue.
Asapartofthe awareness campaign apublic meeting was held at Maharabi in association with the Maharabi Youth Club and the local Meira Paibis.
The meeting resolved to carry on the campaign for enlistment of Meetei in ST category collectively.
The meeting also featured a signature campaign where signatures of people who support the demand were collected.
Similar public meetings would also be held at far off places like Wangoo, Sugnu etc,
it informed.
