Manipur University crisis : 23 members of the MU's Academic Council members tender resignation

Of the 25 members of the Manipur University Academic Council, 23 of them have tender resignation from the membership in protest against the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the new Vice Chancellor and 4 students' body disrespecting the resolution of the Academic Council meeting adopted on October 8 .
In the resignation, letter signed by 23 members of the Academic Council and submitted to the new Vice Chancellor today, the members expressed dissatisfaction to the unilateral decision of the VC Prof Adya Prasad Pandey without giving any respect to the members of the Academic Council.
The letter wrote - " Within such a short period of assumption of office as the Vice Chancellor of the Manipur University, we are invariably pained by your audacity to compromise with the sanctity and dignity of the Academic Council, a statutory body, of the University.
This is fully reflected in your unilateral reversal of a resolution of the Academic Council which was adopted on October 8, 2016 relating to admissions.
In these circumstances, we would assert that you have no moral authority to continue as chairman of the Academic Council" .

The move to tender resignation by the 23 members of the Academic Council comes after the new VC Prof.Adya Prasad Pandey had signed a memorandum of understanding with four students' bodies - DESAM, ATSUM, ANSAM and MUTSU yesterday to superseed the resolution of the Oct 8 Academic Council meeting regarding reservation of seats in admission.
The Academic Council had resolved to rectify the Central Norms of 2006 while the tribal students' bodies have been demanding the amended admission norms of 2012 .
The students bodies particularly those belonging to the MUTSU has been launching various formed of agitation after in charge VC Prof.Amar Yumnam had notified to begin the admission as per the resolution adopted by the Academic Council on October 8 .
The protest by the students' body was even taken to district head quarters of hill area where majority of the tribal inhabited.
