Imphal, November 08 2016:
A twenty-nine-year old man, Ranjoy Langoijam, belonging to an economically backward family of Khabam Makha Leikai under Imphal East district is seeking monetary assistance to undergo a surgery.
The only child of Langoijam Heramani, Ranjoy met with an unfortunate accident on April 7, 2015, that left him immobile.
Ranjoy underwent a kneecap surgery on his right leg after the accident.
The doctors advised him to continue treatment and undergo another surgery a year later.
Coming from a family that mostly depends on what he earned everyday, Ranjoy had to discontinue his treatment.
A year has passed since the accident and Ranjoy has given up hope of getting better.
The Sangai Express found that the patient's father Langoijam Heramani, 70, was also suffering from paralysis owing to which he can barely move or talk.
His 65 year old mother Langoijam Hemabati is the breadwinner of the family.
She feeds her family from the little she makes by doing odd jobs at their locality.
His younger sister weaves clothes to aid her mother.
Being the only son of the family, Ranjoy's parents had high hopes on him.
The accident has shattered the family.
Ranjoy's second operation was scheduled four months earlier but as the family could not save up the amount required for the surgery, the treatment was stopped.
Ranjoy's parents had the option to seek monetary assistance from the family of the man who knocked him down.
But they have moved on and the accident has been forgotten.
With tears streaming down her cheeks Ranjoy's mother implored to all philanthropic organisations and individuals to help her son go through the second surgery.
"What mother can bear to see her son in such condition," Hemabati said and broke down.
The family collected every little thing they had to pay for Ranjoy's first surgery.
The second surgery on the kneecap of his right leg can change Ranjoy's life.
He will be able to walk again if the surgery is successful.
The 29 year old, who was the breadwinner of the family before the accident, now lies immobile both frustrated and anxious as to when he would finally walk and take the burden off his mother and sister.
