Rash driving leads to physical assault

Imphal, November 08 2016:
Three youngsters who shouted at a speeding vehicle were physically assaulted at gun point by a group of men who were travelling in the speeding vehicle, and the assailants were again thrashed by people of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai where the incident took place at around 10.30 pm yesterday.
Angom Stephen (26) of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai told media persons that he and three of his friends were standing by the road side when Maruti Celerio whizzed past them in high speed, and they shouted at the speeding car.
Soon after, the car came back in high speed with a Bolero jeep following closely behind.
One man who alighted from the Bolero jeep drew out a gun and said to Stephen and his friends, "No one should move" .
Then the companions of the armed man assaulted Stephen and two of his friends using stones and bricks.
The armed man also opened fire.
On hearing the gun shots, Stephen and his friends ran for some distance.
In the meantime, they sensed that the armed man had run out of ammunition.
Immediately, they turned around and chased the assailants together with some local people.
Even as others managed to flee away, they rounded up one of the assailants identified as Nongmaithem Inaoba of Tera Sapam Leirak.
The Bolero jeep driven by Inaoba and the gun wielded by him have been seized and handed to Imphal police station.
Inaoba was taken to RIMS as he was thrashed by people of the locality.
The three youngsters who were assaulted and wounded by Inaoba and his companions are Angom Stephen (26), Chingakham Bonson (22) and Thounaojam Bicky (26).They were also taken to RIMS yesterday.
Meanwhile, a protest demonstration was staged today by Meira Paibis of United Club and Library Uripok Khwai Selungba Leirak, Uripok Bachaspati Leikai and Sinam Leikai.
