World Alzheimer's Day observed; gifts, edible items presented to elders

In observance of World Alzheimer's Day, 2020, held on the theme "Let's talk about dementia", various CSOs and organizations handed food items, gifts as well as organized luncheons for the elderlies in old age homes today.
Observing the day, the National Alliance for Elderly People Livelihood Research Advocacy & Chronic Diesease of India along with Alzheiner's and Related Disorders Society of India, Manipur Chapter, jointly organized a lunch programme for the inmates of the old age home in Purana Rajbari run by the All Manipur Women Voluntary Association, Purana Rajbari, Nongmeibung.

They were also presented with food items and medical supplies.
The programme was attended by National Alliance for Elderly People Livelihood Research Advocacy & Chronic Diesease of India president, RK Nayonsana, Alzheiner's and Related Disorders Society of India, Manipur Chapter vice president, Dr K Shantibala, joint secy Meghachandra and treasurer of the society, P Sakuntala.
The guests delivered speeches related to the theme of the event and asked caretakers of Alzheimer's patients to keep them happy and in a good mood, as there is no definite cure for the disorder.
World Alzheimer's Day is observed so that knowledge and awareness on the disorder can be imparted to the general public, specially those families with elders suffering from the disorder.
Understanding the disease is crucial as many families and family members who are ignorant tend to mistreat the patient, they further stated.
Meanwhile, similar programme in observance of World Alzheimer's Day was also held at the Senior Citizen Home, Kongba, Imphal East, today.
The programme was organized by the Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch and attended by Dr S Manikanta, president, Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur, Dr N Heramani, ex-president and Dr Janet, treasurer.
At the programme, blankets, hand sanitizer, face masks, fish and other edible items were provided for the elders lodged there.
