Imphal, November 04 2014:
Chief Minister O Ibobi on Tuesday inspected City Convention Centre at Palace Compound and Old Thumbuthong road ahead of the ensuing Sangai Festival.
The CM was accompanied by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the inspection visit, Ibobi asserted that City Convention Centre was specially constructed to hold conference at international level that is why certain amount of time was taken in renovation of the centre including installation of sound system and interior finishing though the centre was inaugurated earlier.
The CM announced that an international conference on Radiation Oncology to be taken part by more than 600 delegates from different countries will be held from November 6 to 9 at the centre as a trial basis.
Responding to a query in connection with the Sangai Festival, Ibobi said that around 50/60 different stalls representing the State will be put up at a same place in the festival while adding that the stalls to be run by State and National Awardees will exhibit vast array of handloom and handicraft items made by them.
Admitting that construction of the four-lane Sanjenthong Bridge would not be completed before the Sangai Festival due to delay in procurement of some parts of the bridge from France, the CM maintained that once all the requisite components of the bridge arrived, installation of steel structures would not take much time.
In view of the festival which will be held at Hapta Kangjeibung, black topping work along Old Thumbuthong and Minuthong road that lead to the venue of the festival has been going on in full swing, he added.
Stating that the government had already requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take part either in the inaugural or concluding ceremony of the festival but no response has been given by PMO to the request so far, Ibobi confided that several Chief Ministers from Myanmar may participate in the festival.
After inspecting the main hall, sound system, mini conference hall, VIP room, dining hall etc of City Convention Centre, the CM also took stock of the ongoing construction of Old Thumbuthong road which connects with Moirangkhom.
