Imphal, May 31 2009: Even though a girl bagged the most enviable top place, boys dominated the first 10 positions in the results of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination 2009 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) declared today.

The result also showed poor performance of the government run schools as none of the students was included in the first 25 position holders.

The result of the HSLC Exam 2009 conducted by the BSEM was declared today showing a 57 pass percentage.

Out of 27,684 students appeared in the examinatiion, 15,688 passed.

Among them, 4,025 are in the first division, 7,555 are in the second division while the rest 4,108 passed in third division.

Waikhom Nydia Devi of Padma Ratna English School, Kakching in Thoubal district hailing from Kakching Super Market secured the top position.

She secured 637 marks with letter marks in six subjects, Manipuri, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Higher Mathematics.

The second position went to Pareeton Ningombam of Catholic School, Canchipur hailing from Khongman Zone-II, Imphal East.

He got 619 marks, 18 less than that of the topper Nydia.

He secured letter marks in seven subjects.

Yenshembam Chetan of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur secured third position with 613 marks with letter marks in seven subjects.

The fourth, fifth and ninth positions went to Tiny Tot's Unique School, Imphal.

The ninth position was shared with Loktak Christian Model High School, Moirang.

The sixth position went to Regular English High School, Kwa-keithel, the seventh went to St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou, the eighth position went to Evergreen Flowers's Model High School, Moirang while the tenth position went to Paree Imom Sindamsang, Langjing.

Though no girl was among the second to tenth positions which were occupied by the boys, 11 girls were still found among the 25 position holders including the topper.

For a long time in the past, girls used to dominate the first 10 top positions in the HSLC Exam conducted by the BSEM.

In the past years, there had been instances of securing the first three top positions by girls only.

But this time, it did not happen so.

A total of 27,684 students�nearly equal number of boys and girls (13,888 boys and 13,796 girls) appeared in the exams held in the month of March this year.

Out of the total number of candidates, 15,688 students passed the exam making it a 57 pass percentage.

The total number of boys passed is 8,699 boys while that of girls is 6,989 which indicates better performance by the boys in this year's exam.

Better performance of the boys could also be seen from the division wise breakup.

When a total of 2,381 boys passed in the first division,only 1,644 girls passed in the same division.

In the second division too, 4,096 are boys while the rest 3,157 are girls.

But nearly equal number passed in the third division (1,824 boys and 1,805 girls).

Analysis of the pass percentage in the Class X exam conducted by the Board indicates that the performance of the students in this class is improving even though 1 percent less than last year's pass percentage has been observed.

The pass percentage of 2008 was 58% .

In 2005, the pass percentage was just 39.It increased to 40 % the next year 2006.It was again improved to 52% in 2007 .
