Imphal, May 31 2009:
The ongoing infrastructure development work and the existing man power of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) failed to impress the visiting Medical Council of India (MCI) team, said a reliable source.
Nevertheless, the State Government assured the MCI team led by Inspector Agarwal that construction of physical infrastructure as well as recruitment of Professors and other staff will be completed by June/July this year.
After making a direct assessment of the infrastructure development work, the MCI team left Imphal today.
The team would submit a report to the MCI.
After studying the report, the MCI would make due recommendations to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare detailing whether the JNIMS has the requisite infra-structure to be a medical college.
By rule, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will approve JNIMS as a medical institute only after examining the recommendations made by MCI.
On the other hand, the State Government is planning to start
the maiden session of the medical institute from August this year together with other medical institutes of the country.
Out of its intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats, 15 percent would be reserved for students coming from outside the State while rest of the seats would be allotted to students belonging to the State.
