A seminar on "Towards Peace and Development in Manipur" held at the conference hall of the state guest house, Sanjenthong today has efforted to find out ways to bring peace in the land.
Speaking at the seminar organized by the Manipur School of Social Science as chief guest, principal secretary P Sharatchandra said that for marching forward with development, peace is a most important factor and having integration among the state.
Without integration, peace cannot be prevalent.
So there is the need up building up integration.
Professor Dr Dhanabir Laishram, guest lecturer, department of political science, MU presenting his paper on the theme said that state and non-state actors have great role in the conflict situation.
People are in the middle.
Peace cannot be keep at any time and it cannot be bring about by shouting too.
It should be brought about by the prevailing social condition.
Three things are must for prevalent of peace.
They are social justice, political justice and economical justice.
When these three things exist, peace will come automatically, Dhanabir said in his presentation.
He further said that development will follow when peace prevails said some groups
of experts.
Arguments on this matter are still a hot one.
But, Arunachal Pradesh which is consider as one of most peaceful state, is one of the most backward state in the region.
The people of this state are yet to get their rights and keeping suppressed it for such a long time.
Now, with number of educated people increase, they started demanding their rights.
So, he opined that peace will come later when development is brought about.
By development, he included development of mentality of the people besides improvement of road communication, water, power system of the land.
Former lecturer of the Manipur College Dr E Iboyaima in his presentation said that for peace and development, the first step needed is to have people well knowledge of social science.
It is agreed by all the science is good thing.
It invented various news things, designs and products.
But when these scientific inventions are not use in appropriate place and situation, it become harmful.
So, in order to bring peace and development, imparting social science to the people is a must, he opined.
Former principal of Mainpur College, professor N Sadananda observed that peace and development is like two faces of a coin.
These two things cannot go separately.
When a person gives commitment of doing something for another person, there should have faith between the two sides.
When the person do to fulfill the commitment he has given, then peace will exist between them.
The opening function of the seminar was attended by principal secretary P Sharatchandra as chief guest, additional director Hareshwor Goshwami attended as guest of honour while principal of the Manipur School of Social Science A Shamugou presided the function.
