A national level seminar themed 'Towards Peace and Development in Manipur' was organised by the manipur School of Social Science at State Guest House today where the speakers stressing on participation and knowledge sharing by the intellectual community to ensure progress and dignity of the manipuri society.
The seminar held with Principal Secretary P Saratchandra, principal of the seminar hosts A Shamungou and Additional Director of Education (Schools) Hareswar Goswami as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively also emphasised on synchronised societal changes from the local perspective.
In his address, Hareswar Goswami said any deliberation on peace and development should have local taste as the situation from the global perspective cannot be implied to the State.
Meriting the seminar schedule as the right platform at the right time, the guest of honour also applauded the organisers.
Speaking at the occasion, P Saratchandra called upon the intellectual community and Government officials holding high posts to exercise their clout for humanitarian causes as the general public expect deliverance of good service from the cream of the society.
Spicing comments on the importance and relevance of social science with technological advancement, Principal of Manipur School of Social Science A Shamungou highlighted that growth and sensitivity of social science is essential in the determination of development of a society as failure to measure material advancement with a compatible social sense would be detrimental to progress of the society.
Only through cohesion in the advancement of technology and social science would the society be able to achieve goal of peace and progress, he added.
Taking part at the seminar, Dr Dhanabir Laishram of manipur University inferred that in the absence of economic, political and social justice, expectation of peace in the society would be far-fetched.
When only there is peace and tranquillity in the society development will be inevitable, he pointed out.
Another speaker, former Principal of Manipur College Dr Sadananda said that on the basis of a specific area being free from conflict situation that particular zone cannot qualify as a peaceful place for the people too need to have freedom from hunger.
As such peace that would spur development is an essential quality that every society should possess and promote, the retired Principal stressed.
The seminar held with Prof W Nabokumar of MU Anthropology Dept as the moderator was also attended by representatives of Human Rights Alert and United NGOs Mission Manipur.
