Imphal, September 15 2026: Protest demonstrations, demanding the State Government to put pressure on the Central Government to update the NRC based on 1951 as base-year, were organised at the Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai community hall and Naorem Leikai Lairembi community hall today.

During the demonstrations organised under the aegis of 5 CSOs, AMUCO, AMAWOVA, PLMPAM, COHR and MSF, the protesters including locals and students also denounced the SIR 2026, and urged the Government to remove AFSPA 1958 from Manipur.

While denouncing the SIR 2026, the 5 CSOs have been urging the Government to update the National Register of Citizens with 1951 as the base year, allow the return of IDPs to their original homes, and remove the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.Many leaders and members of the 5 CSOs took part in the protest demonstrations today.
